Business Loans & CEEC Funds in Zambia

Two doors for business money in Zambia. Door one: SME loans from banks and MFIs — AB Bank lends K1,000 to K5,000,000 to MSMEs, EFC finances women traders and businesses, LOLC backs payroll-adjacent SMEs. You need 6+ months of trading history and business records.

Door two: the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC). Its 2026 call listed 24 products — irrigation, agro-processing, Azimai women loans, Busulu youth loans, graduate loans, marketeer and tourism loans — applied for through empowerment.ceec.org.zm. Calls open and close, so check ceec.org.zm for the live window, keep your CRB record clean (adverse reports are rejected), and never pay anyone an "application fee".

Tip: Open a separate mobile-money wallet or account for the business and run all sales through it for 6 months — that transaction record is what unlocks both bank SME loans and CEEC approval.

Frequently asked questions

What is CEEC?

The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission gives targeted citizens, SMEs and cooperatives funding through products like Azimai (women), Busulu (youth), graduate, marketeer and agro loans. Applications go through empowerment.ceec.org.zm or provincial offices.

What disqualifies a CEEC application?

Adverse CRB reports in your name, your enterprise or any director — and incomplete applications. Fix your credit record first.

What do banks want for an SME loan?

Usually 6+ months trading, business records, collateral or equipment (AB Bank, EFC), and residence in Zambia. EFC even lets borrowing clients buy into ownership through its share program.

Market trader with no records?

Start with a market-trader product (EFC Women Traders K5,000–K15,000 needs basic records and household assets) and build the paper trail from there.
